Golfers Tee Up 2009 Fall at Gonzaga Invite

The 2009 version of Bobcat golf tees up the fall season at the Gonzaga Bulldog/Eagle Invite Monday in Spokane.
Montana State will take eight golfers to the event that takes place at Hangman Golf Course and is hosted by Gonzaga University and Eastern Washington. The 14-team event includes Big Sky Conference schools Northern Arizona, Idaho State, University of Montana, and Eastern Washington, in addition to Montana State.
At last year's invite, MSU golfer Kelly Gillum placed fourth in the field and MSU took 11th place of 14 teams. Gillum, the Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Year last year, returns to the Bobcat program this fall as an assistant coach.
Golfers for the Bobcats this weekend include freshmen Melissa Hultstrand, Molly Dorans, and Kelly O'Brien, sophomores Leslie McGetrick, Katie Michunovich, and Chelsea Ray, junior Brittani Jones and senior Elise Nelsen. McGetrick tied for 47th at last year's invite.
Portland State is the defending champion but not in the field this year. Stephanie Johns of Portland State was the medalist a year ago. Last year's tournament was played at The Links in Post Falls, Idaho, because Hangman Valley was undergoing a re-design.
