Montana State Women’s Basketball Team Tops in the Nation – Academically Speaking

The Bobcat women's squad posted a 3.501 grade-point average, finishing behind Indiana State (3.645), North Dakota (3.580) and South Dakota State (3.571). Rounding out the top five was Bowling Green (3.470).
Eastern Washington, who ranked ninth overall, was the only other Big Sky Conference school listed among the Top 25.
“Each year we set a goal to be among the nation's best in the classroom, and it's a fantastic tribute to our student-athletes to be recognized for their academic prowess,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford.
The MSU women's team has consistently been ranked in the top of NCAA Division I over the past four seasons, including 4th in 2006-07; 5th in 2005-06; and 11th in 2007-08.
“We place a lot of emphasis on excellence both on and off the court,” Binford said. “We want our kids to get the best collegiate experience possible, and at top of that list is to earn their degree from such a prestigious school as Montana State University.”
The MSU academic team of Kylie Perlinski, academic advisor, and Mandy Close, assistant women's basketball coach, played a major role in the Bobcats classroom success.
“We have a lot of resources available for our student-athletes to be successful off the court, and certainly among those are our academic success center and our program's relationship between coach Close and Kylie,” Binford said. “We take great pride in our student-athletes.”
Last winter, seven Bobcat players were named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team, which included Katie Bussey, Nubia Garcia, Mara Hoefer, Anne Phippard, Lyndi Seidensticker, Sarah Strand and Jamie Thornton.
