Bobcat Women Open Practice on Friday

The MSU women's basketball team officially begins the 2009-10 on Friday night.

“We're anxious to get going,” said MSU fifth-year head coach Tricia Binford. “Heading into the first practice, this group possesses the best attitude and energy we have ever had in the program.”
Leading the Bobcats on the floor is senior Erica Perry. Perry, a first-team All Big Sky selection last winter, paced the team in scoring, assists and steals as a junior. In addition, junior Sarah Strand and Katie Bussey, the 2008-09 Big Sky Freshman of the Year, return in a starting role.

“We have more rookies than veterans and we'll need our upperclassmen's help in getting everyone on the same page as early as possible,” Binford said. “We need to learn fairly quickly. We have big expectations and we need to come together as a team by our first game.”
One junior, one sophomore and six freshmen will see the Bobcat floor for the first time. Guiding the contingent is junior college transfer Beata Bak (

“We have a lot of concepts to get into place, and we'll pick our battles,” Binford said. “Defensively, we need to be solid by Nov. 1. We have a lot on our plate, and this group is more than capable of achieving our goals.”
The public will get its first chance to see the MSU women's basketball team in action, when it hosts its annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. in Shroyer Gym.
