Aaron Grusonik, MA, Psy.D joined Montana State Athletics as its Director of Student-Athlete Wellness in August of 2019. His primary responsibilities focus on helping Bobcat student-athletes with mental performance including goal setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and referral for clinical consultation and services.
Dr. Grusonik will oversee the Bobcat Wellness Team, be the department liaison for students of concern, work closely with Counseling & Psychological Services, manage the department's mental health handbook, coordinate required education for student-athletes and staff, and meet with students, coaches, and teams to provide performance based strategies as well as help students find clinical help if necessary. In his role, he works with and reach out to student-athletes and teams who may be struggling or needing support in a variety of areas, including: sport performance, mental health, interpersonal struggles, personal struggles or times of crisis, and other areas a person or team may seek to improve on a mental or emotional basis.
Grusonik obtained his Psy.D in clinical psychology from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, Calif. He also holds a master's degree from the University of San Francisco and a bachelor's degree from Saint Mary's. Most recently, Dr. Grusonik served as the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Safety and Welfare at MSU. He previously worked with MSU CPS. His dissertation was on studying the mental health of athletes from a wide variety of psychological conditions and constructs. This is also an area of research interest and growing expertise. In California, he served as head coach for water polo at the collegiate and high school levels. He was a water polo and men's crew student-athlete at Saint Mary's.
