Seth Brock among the injured for MSU's home opener
BOZEMAN, Mont. (Sept. 5, 2026) – Montana State takes one more victory lap before tonight's Gold Rush game.
One final recognition of the program's 2025 FCS National Championship occurs a half-hour before kickoff, when members of Montana State's 1976 and 1984 title-winning squads present a letter sweater handed down from Bobcat legend Max Worthington as a symbol of pride and loyalty. Six members of the '25 team accept the letter sweater from Doug Kimbal of the 1984 team.
"It's a cool tradition," said Montana State head coach Brent Vigen. It means a lot to the 1976 guys and the 1984 guys, and I know it will mean a lot to (the 2025) guys." Team captains Paul Brott, Kenneth Eiden IV and JT Reed, along with Julius Davis, Alec Eckert and Hunter Parsons, accept Max Worthington's letter sweater. Team captains from 1976, Bert Markovich and Tim Nixon, and the nephew of 1929 team captain Gus Wylie, Bozeman's Paul Wylie, will join the presentation.
Max's sweater will reside permanently in the Bobcat football locker room.

The 2026 debuts of a several of Bobcats expected to contribute remain on the shelf for the Gold Rush game. Veteran linebacker Neil Daily and freshman receivers Parker Mady and Maxwell Hendrick remain out with injuries. Defensive end Seth Brock, linebacker and special teams staple Zac Waible, defensive lineman AJ Tanupo and offensive lineman Samora Ezekiel are also out for tonight's game.
Fifth-year defensive ends Jake Vigen and Logan Frederickson move into the depth chart in Brock's absence.

After intercepting one pass in the team's first five games a season ago, Montana State snared two in the opener at Utah Tech. Tayden Gray picked off his third career pass, and Brendon Ross turned his first into a touchdown.

Montana State looks for its 16th consecutive win on Saturday night. That would be the program's longest winning streak in history.

Taco Dowler broke the Big Sky career punt return yardage record last week, and has the national record in his sights. His 1,462 career yards is 206 away from the FCS record of Marquay McDaniel's mark of 2,668 yards. McDaniel played for Hampton from 2002-25.
