Eva Heinz finishes ninth to lead Montana State in regular-season finale
GOODYEAR, Ariz. --- The Montana State women's golf team secured its second-straight top-three finish to cap off the regular season at the Bobcat Desert Classic on Wednesday, finishing with a 54-hole score of 876 to place runner-up at the Golf Club of Estrella.
Montana State posted a 6-over 294 team score in the third and final round of the tournament to secure its second-place result, with Eva Heinz earning her second top-10 individual result of the season to lead the Bobcats in ninth place at 2-over 218. In total, four Bobcats finished in the top 20, with Lauren Greeny placing 12th (5-over 221) and Norah Seidl and Ashleigh Wilson tying for 19th place (6-over 222).
"Obviously wasn't the finish we were expecting, but we're going take the positives from this tournament and use them as momentum to get us ready for the Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "Our focus now is ahead on preparing and being ready for what we've set out to accomplish since the beginning of our season for this tournament. We've got a lot of things to be proud of, and these girls are gritty. I have no doubt that we're going to give the Big Sky title a run for its money, and I'm hoping that, come that final day, we have an opportunity to be in the final pairing, show them what the Bobcats are made of, and go out there and just play some golf.
"We also need to use these rounds where we're having the opportunity to take the lead and keep the lead. Each time we put ourselves in this position is a learning opportunity, and there's nothing to be upset about that, so I'm proud of them. We're going to move forward and get ready for the Big Sky Conference Championship. We're going to take a couple days where we go over what we need to go over and be ready to tee up Monday when the conference tournament starts. We have high expectations, and we need to figure a little more out about ourselves in the next couple days about big pressure situations. We need to learn from this tournament, work hard the next few days, and when Monday's tee time arrives, we will be ready. It's the biggest tournament of the year, and we've been preparing since last August for this one."
