MSU survives torrid fourth quarter by Wildcats
(Jan. 24, 2026) – Taylee Chirrick scored a game-high 24 points and Addison Harris netted 15, leading Montana State to a 92-72 women's basketball win at Weber State on Saturday.
Chirrick shot 7 for 14 from the floor and made nine of her 13 free throws, grabbing seven rebounds with five assists and five steals to lead the Bobcats. Harris made four of her eight shots, while Kadynce Couture contributed four assists and four steals off the bench.
"We had some great performances today," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. "We got a road win, and it's hard to win on the road, so that's positive. But we were inconsistent, and the difference between a good team and a great one is that level of consistency."
The Bobcats scored the game's first six points and never trailed. Weber State drew within 28-26 with four minutes remaining in the first half after a three-pointer and a fast break layup by Lanae Billy. But Courtney Smith hit her first three-pointer as a Bobcat, and Issy Bunyan followed with a triple, and WSU never seriously threatened again.
The Bobcats led 23-17 after the first quarter, 44-32 at halftime, and 74-43 after three periods. The Wildcats, though, opened the fourth quarter on an 23-5 run. That burst cut MSU's lead to 79-66 with five minutes to play. A pair of Chirrick free throws, followed by free throws by Harris and Bunyan, and a jumper by Couture, pushed the Bobcats lead back to 20.
"That fourth quarter doesn't sit well," Binford said. The Cats shot just 3-for-13 while WSU poured in nine of its 15 shots. The net results was a 29-18 Weber State scoring advantage in the closing period.
The contrast between the third quarter, when MSU made 10 shots with eight assists, forcing eight turnovers while holding the Wildcats to 2-for-6 shooting, and the fourth quarter was stark. "In the third quarter, especially, we looked like we want to look. We shared the ball, we played unselfishly, and we defended."
The Bobcats finished shooting 48.3 percent from the floor and 50 percent (13-for-26) from three-point range. MSU forced 29 Wildcats turnovers, with 20 steals, while turning it over 15 times.
After Idaho's win against Portland State on Saturday, MSU and the Vandals (6-1) remain as the only Big Sky teams with just one league loss. The Cats raise their record to 14-5 overall, 7-1 in Big Sky play, while Weber State falls to 6-15 overall, 0-8 in the conference.
