BOZEMAN, Mont. (August 29, 2025) – Montana State exerted its in-state dominance in the first cross country race of 2025, sweeping the men's and women's competitions in the Bobcat Twilight Invitational in Bozeman on Friday.
The Bobcats logged perfect scores in both races on the MSU campus Friday, with Sam Ells (14:54.90) and Owen Smith (14:59.40) out-pacing the field to take the top two spots in the men's race. MSU finished 1-2-3-4 in the women's competition, with Eva Koos (18:15.60), Hannah Perrin (18:17.80), Madi Siana (18:25.70), Claire Rutherford (18:26.20) and Hailey Watkins (18:43.20) besting the field.
"We graduated so many high performers from both of last year's teams," said Montana State's Dale Kennedy Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Lyle Weese, "so it was great to see so many underclassmen step up and take the reigns and demonstrate the have the ability and have put in the work to continue the tradition of success. We had seen it in practice, but it was nice to see it in a race environment."
MSU scored 15 points in each race to beat Big Sky rival Montana, who scored 52 points in the men's race and 66 in the women's. MSU Billings and several Frontier schools rounded out the competition. Montana State's next race is Sept. 26 at the University of Missouri.
