Bobcats seek to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships on Friday
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. – The Montana State cross country team continues its postseason in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Friday morning, competing in the NCAA Mountain Regional at the Regional Athletic Complex.
The NCAA Mountain Regionals are set to kick off with the women's 6k at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men's 10k at 11:30 a.m. Awards will follow the men's race at approximately 1 p.m. The Bobcat men are seeking to qualify for the national meet as a team for the third time in four years. Montana State sent at least one individual to the NCAA Championships on the men's or women's side for six-straight seasons from 2018 to 2023 and will look to send competitors to Nationals for the seventh time in eight years with strong performances in Utah on Friday.
Live results from the NCAA Mountain Regionals will be available through Finished Results.
"The women's team is coming off its best race of the year at conference," Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lyle Weese said. "It will be a great test to be able to take that higher level of performance into the Mountain Region meet in a larger and higher quality field. The women have taken so many steps forward this season, so I am confident they will make the most of this opportunity. The men's team did some good things at the conference meet, but we also had some inconsistent performances. For the Mountain Region meet, we are looking to be more consistent across the board in our team performance. The men's team has run well at the Mountain Region meet over at least the last three years, so we have confidence we can perform well again this year in what is traditionally the strongest region."
The top-two teams plus the top-four finishers not on an advancing team per gender at the Mountain Regionals will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will take place in Columbia, Mo. on Saturday, Nov. 22. An additional 14 teams and two individuals per gender nationwide will receive at-large bids to the championship meet.
Montana State is one of 19 women's squads and 17 men's teams competing at the NCAA Mountain Regionals on Friday. Heading into the meet, the Bobcat men are ranked 10th in the region while the women are ranked 11th. For the men, this includes No. 3 New Mexico, No. 6 Colorado, No. 8 Northern Arizona, No. 10 BYU, and No. 28 Air Force. On the women's side, the ranked teams include No. 1 BYU, No. 8 New Mexico, No. 17 Colorado, No. 21 Northern Arizona, and No. 22 Utah.
