“We did really well in doubles play,” said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. “You could see all the work that we’ve put in over the past two weeks come into play. It’s exciting to see our growth.”
Montana State senior Marta Garcia-Reboredo and sophomore Meg McCarty each posted 5-1 records at the Barb Chandler Invite hosted by Boise State at the Appleton Tennis Center over the weekend.
Montana State, Boise State and Idaho State all competed in the mini-dual format where each school divided into pairs, with each duo facing pairs from other schools. The teams played a doubles match, followed by two singles matches. The duo that took two out of three matches advanced to the next round.
MSU's tandem of Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins opened with a 3-0 win over BSU's Bhakti Shah and Ella Piron in the Blue Draw. McCarty and teammate Andrea Cuquerella fell 2-1 to ISU in their opener, as Cuquerella scored the Bobcats' lone point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Millie Day.
Idaho State's team Asem Shoybek and Stefanya Shalakhova defeated Garcia-Reboredo and Hawkins 2-1 in semifinal action.
McCarty and Cuquerella won its consolation semifinal match over BSU 2-1. McCarty then combined with Bobcat senior Mia Ljubas (due to illness with Cuquerella) and the duo captured the Blue Draw consolation title with a 2-1 win over Shah and Piron.

Ljubas, a product of Seattle, Wash., finished the tournament with a 3-0 doubles mark.
"We've been talking a lot this fall about having a championship mindset," Woodburn said. "We are trying new things that will make us better in the spring. We had a lot of good things happen last weekend and that adds to our confidence as a team."
The Bobcats will compete at the ITA Regionals Oct. 17-22 hosted by New Mexico State.
