BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Seven members of the Montana State cross country and track and field teams earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honors, the organization announced this week.
Elena Carter, Grace Gilbreth, Shelby Schweyen, and Maisee Brown were named CSC Academic All-District for the women, while Colby Wilson, Owen Smith, and Janis Pohl earned accolades for the men.
The 2024 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track, in the field, and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes men's track & field honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Women's Track and Field/XC first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Tuesday, July 9. The Men's Track and Field/XC first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced one day later on July 10.

Carter is also third all-time in both the indoor and outdoor long jump.
Gilbreth, a senior from Bozeman, Montana, held a 3.94 GPA while pursuing a degree in economics. Gilbreth placed 25th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA West First Rounds in Arkansas, capping a year in which she earned a bronze medal in the event the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in addition to a fifth place finish in the 10,000 meters. The senior also earned All-Conference honors in cross country, placing 10th at the Big Sky Championships this past fall.
Schweyen, a graduate student from Missoula, Montana, held a 3.70 GPA while pursuing a degree in biological sciences. Schweyen won the Big Sky title in the indoor pentathlon before earning a silver medal at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon in May. The Montana native's 5,174 points in the heptathlon through snowy conditions in Bozeman is still good for the fourth-best score in program history, and her 3,817 points in the pentathlon is the third-best score in program history.
Brown, a graduate student from Billings, Montana, held a 3.88 GPA while pursuing a degree in community health. Brown placed 41st in the pole vault at the NCAA West First Rounds this spring after earning a silver medal at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships. Smith also was a top-three scoring runner on a Montana State cross country team that placed second at the Big Sky Championships and placed 13th at the NCAA Championships in November, with Smith finishing 72nd individually.
Pohl, a senior from Frankfurt, Germany, held a 3.99 GPA while pursuing a degree in psychology. Pohl put a bow on one of the most remarkable comeback stories in program history with an incredible 19th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the NCAA West First Rounds, narrowly missing on a chance to compete in Eugene. Pohl, who battled injuries throughout his career in a Bobcat uniform that limited his production, made good use of a healthy outdoor season, winning the Big Sky title in the 400 meter hurdles and climbing to No. 2 all-time in program history in the event.
