Zephir, a 6-foot-4 scoring and playmaking threat, signs with the Bobcats out of Salt Lake Community College
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Montana State men's basketball coach Matt Logie announced the signing of transfer guard Bryce Zephir on Wednesday.
Zephir, a 6-foot-4 guard from Carson, California, commits to the three-time defending Big Sky Champion Bobcats out of Salt Lake Community College.
"We are thrilled to add Bryce Zephir to our Montana State Basketball family," Logie said. "Bryce is a strong, physical play-making guard that affects winning in a variety of ways."
The rising junior appeared in 32 games for the Bruins this past season, starting in 24 and averaging 10.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over 25.5 minutes per game.
Zephir scored a season-high 20 points with six assists against Laramie County CC on Nov. 29, and tallied 18 double-figure scoring games this past season.
The team captain helped lead Salt Lake to a 30-4 overall record with a SWAC regular season title, a Region 8 championship, and a West District crown. The third-ranked Bruins advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament.
The guard was named Third Team All-Conference and Third Team All-Region, and signs with the Cats as the No. 34-rated junior college player in the country.
"Offensively Bryce can attack the defense at all three levels with his ability to shoot the ball, great court vision and passing ability, and the physicality and size to touch the paint in a variety of ways," Logie said. "He will also bring a physical and versatile presence to our backcourt defensively with his size and athleticism."
The guard started his collegiate career at Chipola College in 2020-21, before spending two seasons at North Texas, where he played in ten games in 2021-22 and redshirted the 2022-23 season.
Zephir joins incoming freshman Trap Johnson (Belton, Texas) as announced signees in the Bobcats' Class of 2024.
Montana State is coming off their third consecutive Big Sky Tournament championship and third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The "Golden Age" of Bobcat Basketball has included the Big Sky's first three-peat champion since 1970-73 and three of the Bobcats' six trips all-time to the NCAA Tournament. The Cats took down Montana in the Big Sky Championship game to cap a magical postseason run, booking their ticket to the Big Dance as the lowest seed to win the Big Sky Tournament since 1994.
