Bobcats Debut in Mid Major Top 25 Poll
12/18/2024 7:20:00 PM | Women's Basketball
“Getting ranked in the mid major poll is great recognition for our program and the conference,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford said. “We’ve been tested early. We’ve faced a great preseason schedule against a variety of conferences and styles of play. Our competition has helped us continue growing as a team.”
Montana State women's basketball knew it had a big opportunity staring itself in the face on Monday night at Florida Gulf Coast University, a perennial mid major top 25 program that's made seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Bobcats took full advantage of the occasion handing the Eagles a 58-49 setback and snapping FGCU's 37-game home court win streak which was the second longest active run in the nation.
Behind the victory, Montana State made its first appearance at No. 17 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top 25 poll, released on Tuesday afternoon.

We've faced a great preseason schedule against a variety of conferences and styles of play. Our competition has helped us continue growing as a team."
MSU plays its final two non-conference games at the Puerto Rico Classico, beginning with Presbyterian- an NCAA tournament team last winter- Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. (MT). The Bobcats conclude play against NCAA Division II independent Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Friday, also at 8:30 a.m.
"We're keeping our focus on getting better each time we step on the court," Binford said. "The non-conference is certainly preparing us for Big Sky play. The ultimate goal is to be at our best in March."
Bobcat fans can catch MSU at the Puerto Rico Classico on 1450 KMMS-AM with play-by-play man Daniel Salle on the call beginning 15-minutes prior to tipoff.
Montana State opens its Big Sky season hosting Idaho, Jan. 2.
