Cats Face #1 Northern Colorado in Big Sky Tournament

Montana State makes its seventh consecutive Big Sky Conference Tournament appearance on Wednesday, Nov. 27, when it faces #1 Northern Colorado at 2 p.m. (MT).
NEXT UP: Montana State makes its seventh consecutive Big Sky Conference Tournament appearance on Wednesday, Nov. 27, when it faces #1 Northern Colorado at 2 p.m. (MT). The Bobcats enter the tournament as the No. 8 seed. This year's tournament is played at The Next and hosted by Sacramento State. If the Bobcats were to get past the Bears, they would face the winner of #4 Weber State and #5 Eastern Washington on Thursday at 5 p.m. (MT). The Big Sky Championship match is slated for Friday at 8 p.m.
QUICK SETS: Montana State defeated Montana 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 on Friday night to finish the regular season 9-18 overall and 7-9 in Big Sky Conference play. Northern Colorado enters the league tournament 23-6 overall and 14-2 in Big Sky play. The Bears swept Idaho (3-0) and Easter Washington (3-0) last weekend in Greeley.
DEFENSIVE POW: Jourdain Kamps was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week for her effort as the Bobcats completed a season sweep of Montana on Friday night in front of 3,567 fans in Worthington Arena. The honor is the second for Kamps this season. The Ennis product was the league's offensive player of the week on Oct. 7. Against Montana, Kamps notched a match-best seven blocks. She also played an integral role in holding a resurgent Grizzly offense to a .126 attack mark, including the final two sets under .100. Offensively, she also guided the Bobcats with a team-high 10 kills, while hitting .435 from the field. Perhaps the best opposite blocker in Montana State history, Kamps is second all-time with 474 blocks assists. Her career total block mark stands at 499, just one shy of becoming the third Bobcat in history to hit the 500-block milestone- joining Megan Zanto (592, 2002-05) and Karen Weyler (570, 1994-97).
AMONG THE NATION'S ELITE: As a team Montana State ranks 35th in the country averaging 2.55 blocks per contest. MSU is listed 43rd in the nation with 272.5 total blocks. Last Friday night, MSU outblocked Montana 11-8. The nation's top blocking program to date is Wisconsin at 3.08 bps. Individually, Jourdain Kamps leads the Bobcats averaging 1.24 per set, followed by Jordan Radick 1.20 bps. Kamps and Radick rank 59th and 70th in the nation in blocks per set, respectively. In Big Sky matches, MSU has three of the top ten blockers in the league. Kamps is 2nd at 1.31 bps, Radick, 4th, 1.25 bps, and sophomore Joelie Spelts, 7th, 1.03 bps.
ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE: According to the NCAA rankings this week, Montana State's 2024 non-conference schedule is the 36th toughest in the nation and tops in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats have faced three teams ranked in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I Women's Volleyball Top 25 poll - #2 Nebraska, #8 Arizona State and (RV) Washington.
PACKING THE PLACE: Montana State averaged 1,185 fans this season (ten matches). Last Friday night against Montana, the Bobcats saw a season-high 3,567 fans pack Worthington Arena. MSU is currently ranked 62nd in the nation for attendance, ahead of programs such as UCLA, Alabama, and Baylor. Last fall, MSU finished 65th in the nation averaging 1,115 fans per game. On Sept. 30, 2022, Montana State set a Big Sky and State of Montana record when 6,457 fans jammed Worthington Arena.
HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES: Fourteen of Montana State's 107 sets played have gone to extra points. The Bobcats are 7-7 in those matches. MSU's last extra point contest (26-28) came in the first set against Sacramento State, last Saturday night.
