Bobcat Women Hold Blue/Gold Scrimmage Thursday Night

We’re certainly not polished, and we have a lot of rotations, a lot of line-ups to figure out, but we want to make sure we’re maximizing the gifts that we have with this team.”
Montana State women's basketball fans can get its first look at the 2024-25 edition of the Bobcats, Thursday, Oct. 24 as the team hosts its annual Blue/Gold Scrimmage at 7 p.m. in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Montana State returns ten players, including four starters, from last year's squad that posted a 17-16 overall mark – the program's 17th consecutive non-losing season – and a 10-8 in Big Sky record. The Bobcats also added Esmeralda Morales, a First Team All-Big Sky selection at Portland State, along with New Mexico transfer Hannah Robbins during the offseason. Freshmen Teagan Erickson, Addison Harris and Taylee Chirrick round out the roster.
Well into its preseason drills, the Bobcats look to make improvements within a game-like atmosphere as it begins to define its identity.
"Every week we see improvement," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford, who enters her 20th season with the program. "This team is going to be really fast, really long, really athletic and we'll want to maximize our depth. We love the effort right now, and how the team's coming along. We're certainly not polished, and we have a lot of rotations, a lot of line-ups to figure out, but we want to make sure we're maximizing the gifts that we have with this team."
Wednesday morning, Montana State was picked to finish second in both the Big Sky Coaches and media polls, behind Northern Arizona.
According to Binford, the Bobcats are accustomed to being recognized as one of the top programs in the conference but is quick to point out that their focus is getting better each day and to be at their best when March hits.
"I think we're a little ahead defensively because we have more freedom with this group just because we have more numbers," Binford stated. "We've really improved our rebounding from last year."
"Offensively, you add an Esmeralda Morales into what we we're already doing and that instantly makes you better, but I feel our returners have gotten better and the freshmen and newcomers are doing a great job."
The Blue/Gold Scrimmage is free and open to the public.
