Freshman Teya Yeomans, playing in her first match as a Bobcat, put an exclamation point on the contest with her second kill of the afternoon.
After a disappointing loss to Eastern Washington on Thursday night that saw Montana State commit a season-high 29 hitting errors, the Bobcats bounced back on Saturday afternoon with 12 miscues en route to a season best .386 attack mark and a 25-17, 25-19, 27-17 sweep of Idaho in front of 1,347 fans in Shroyer Gym.
"More times than not when we haven't performed the way we want to perform it's been about us being in control of ourselves rather than what the opponent is doing," said MSU head coach Matt Houk. "I thought we were in control of ourselves for long periods of time during the match, and hopefully, that's something we can see and build off of a little bit."
Following three consecutive aces from Nellie Stevenson, Montana State (6-11, 4-2) held an 11-6 lead in the opening set. The Bobcats held the margin and finished off the frame on a kill by fifth-year standout Jourdain Kamps.
MSU recorded seven aces in the set, including two from Madilyn Siebler and Courtney Weatherby.
"From the service line we were really solid," Houk said. "We were hitting the spaces we wanted to hit, which made Idaho's offense a little more predictable, and it allowed the transition side of our attack to be a little cleaner."
Junior Camryn Greenwald paced MSU in the second set posting five kills and a .833 attack mark. The Bobcats held a 21-14 advantage on a Joelie Spelts kill before two straight winners from Greenwald gave Montana State the win.
Nine different Bobcats registered kills in the final frame as MSU outhit Idaho (1-15, 0-5) .517 to .200. Montana State owned a 15-12 lead at the media timeout and pushed the margin to 22-13 on a kill from Erika Gustafson.
Freshman Teya Yeomans, playing in her first match as a Bobcat, put an exclamation point on the contest with her second kill of the afternoon.
"We've been wanting to find some opportunities to get Teya some attempts, but the flow of the match hasn't always allowed for that," Houk commented. "Teya's an athlete that's got a really bright future with us and you want to get her some experience, and she came in and did a nice job."
Kamps and Siebler led MSU with nine kills apiece, while Greenwald added seven. Stevenson and Audrey Hofer dished out 27 and 11 assists, respectively. Defensively, Lauren Lindseth tallied a match-high 13 digs, while Kamps and Jordan Radick recorded five blocks each.
