MSU shot 28.3% (17-60) from the field, its lowest total since mid-November, while the Bengals converted at a 48.9% clip.
Montana State found baskets hard to come by in its 62-53 loss at Idaho State on Monday night in Reed Gym. MSU shot 28.3% (17-60) from the field, its lowest total since mid-November, while the Bengals converted at a 48.9% clip.
Montana State (9-10, 3-3) held a 17-15 lead after the opening quarter, but Idaho State (8-10, 4-3) held MSU to just 10% from the field in the second stanza to take a 35-24 advantage into intermission.
ISU built a 14-point cushion in the third quarter before MSU whittled the margin to six points in the waning moments on two occasions. The Bobcats would get no closer than 55-49 with one minute, 29 seconds left following a Marah Dykstra layup.
Despite forcing Idaho State into 21 turnovers, while committing just six, MSU was unable to convert the Bengal miscues into points. ISU also benefitted from a dominating 43-22 advantage under the boards.
"We were definitely flat to start," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. "We need to find a way to duplicate energy away from home. Idaho State was the more aggressive team and dominated the glass. We forced a lot of turnovers but need to be able to capitalize off that."
Madison Hall and Taylor Janssen led MSU in scoring with 12 points each, while Natalie Picton chipped in 10.
The Bobcats host Sacramento State on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
