Bobcats Start Strong at 2023 CNFR

Montana State women rise to upper reaches of first go-round
Montana State's women spent the entire spring season in the Big Sky Region's catbird seat. Through one full round and part of a second at the 2023 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper the Bobcats showed that was no accident.
Three Bobcats stand in second place after the first go-round of the three women's events and another is in second during the second go. Tayla Moeykens dropped into second place in the first go of the barrel racing late in the round, while Cate Hepper (breakaway roping) and Jessica Stevens (goat tying) also finished second in the first go. Meghan McGinley stands second in the second round of breakaway roping.
"I thought it was a pretty good day," said Bobcat coach Kyle Whitaker. "The first round of breakaway was Sunday and it didn't go as good as I was hoping, but they came back and did better today. It was a better first round this year than last year."
Bode Spring led the men's team by finishing third in the first go-round in the tie-down roping, while Caleb Meeks finished 25th in the first saddle bronc round and stands second in the second go-round of that event. "I was happy how Bode Spring did in the tie-down and Caleb had good second round saddle bronc."
The CNFR's second round will be finished during Tuesday's slack, and the four 7 pm public performances, which begin Tuesday, wrap up the third round. Saturday's performance determine the champions. Individual results below…
