Bobcats Fortify Men's Basketball Roster with Trio of Transfers

MSU gains talent, depth on the perimeter
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State men's basketball coach Matt Logie continued to build his team's 2023-24 roster on Friday, adding Eddie Turner III, Aiden Gair, and Jaden Geron to the squad.
Turner III arrives at MSU with two seasons of eligibility after graduating from Columbia of the Ivy League. Originally from Seattle, Turner III started eight of his nine games in 2021-22, averaging 9.0 points and 1.3 rebounds a game. He played in eight games for the Lions in 2019-20, scoring 2.5 points a game with 1.0 rebounds. 2.1 assists, and 1.0 steals an outing. "We are excited to add Eddie to the Bobcat basketball family," Logie said. "As an Ivy League grad he brings an intelligence, maturity and life experience to our program that will certainly pay dividends in our locker room, but beyond that, Eddie is someone that has his best basketball in front of him these next two years."
Turner III, who earned Second Team All-Metro and All-PNBA honors at Seattle Garfield High in 2018 as a junior, fortifies the Bobcat backcourt. "Eddie has tremendous speed and tenacity as a lead guard and can really push the tempo on both sides of the ball," Logie said. "He is a winner, has competed at the highest levels of Metro League in Seattle, won a state championship at Garfield during a highly competitive time in Washington state hoops and in his most recent Ivy League season was approaching double digit scoring averages as a sophomore point guard."
Gair, a 6-5 guard originally from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, comes to MSU from Missouri State-West Plains Junior College as a junior. He averaged 15.4 points and 3.7 rebounds a game as a sophomore, shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from the three-point line. As a freshman at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas, in 2020-21, Gair scored 6.0 points a game, shooting 43.2 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from the arc. The next season, he averaged 8.7 points a game and shot 47.3 percent overall and 40.2 percent from deep. He earned Second Team All-Class 3A honors as a senior at Loyalsock Township High School in 2019-20.
"Aiden is someone we identified as one of the best shooters available this spring as evidenced by him being seventh in the nation in three-point shooting at the National JC level," Logie said. "Aiden is an efficient shooter who can shoot on the move in a variety of ways and is a late bloomer after being a three-sport all-state athlete in high school in Williamsport, PA. Aiden has a work ethic and competitive spirit that really fit our culture and we're excited to see how that translates in the Blue and Gold."
A Fresno, California, product, Geron transfers to Montana State from Rice. The 6-8 junior forward scored 1.9 points with 1.2 rebounds in his nine games as a sophomore in 2022-23. In 11 games as a freshman in 2021-22 he chipped in 2.2 points with 1.2 assists a contest. His career high of 15 points came against Jarvis Christian in 2021-22, and he earned a spot on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll that season. Geron's 16 points and nine rebounds per game at Fresno's San Joaquin Memorial High School as a senior in 2020-21 netted him first team all-league and All-Central Section honors.
"Jaden is a young man we've followed since high school prior to committing to Rice University in Conference USA," Logie said. "He has a tremendous combination of length and skill. At almost 6-8, Jaden has great size for a guard/wing, but also has the ball handling and feel to make plays for himself and others. Just like Eddie and Aiden, Jaden is extremely hungry to write this next chapter and has his best basketball ahead of him. I'm excited to see how he can impact our program immediately."
