For the third straight year Montana State senior Darian White has been a unanimous First Team All-Big Sky Conference selection. On Thursday morning, the Big Sky Conference honored White's talents, along with teammates Kola Bad Bear and Leia Beattie. MSU head coach Tricia Binford also picked up kudos earning tri-BSC Coach of the Year accolades.
This season, White became the first player in Big Sky history to record over 1,700 points, 600 rebounds, 400 steals and 200 assists. She moved into third on MSU's all-time scoring list with 1,702 points, trailing just Kathleen McLaughlin Howard (1,761) and current Bobcat assistant Katie Bussey (1,710). The product of Boise, Idaho is averaging 14.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.2% from the field.
Bad Bear, who was a third-team all-league pick last season, was named to the All-Big Sky Second Team. She is currently second on the squad averaging 10.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in Big Sky play, while shooting 48.4% from the field and 80.4% from the line. The Billings Senior graduate has notched 12 double-digit scoring games this winter, including a career-high 23 points against Montana on Feb. 18. Last Monday, Bad Bear pulled down a season-best 10 rebounds.
Beattie came off the bench in Big Sky action in all but one game this season. The junior guard is averaging 9.3 points per game and leads the Bobcats with 49 three-pointers. Beattie posted a career-high 27 points at San Jose State earlier this season and a Big Sky high of 26 points in MSU's win at Weber State. Against the Wildcats, she came off the bench to go six-of-10 from beyond the arc. For her efforts, she was named the Big Sky's Top Reserve of the Year as well as all-conference honorable mention.
Binford, in her 18th season at the helm of the Bobcat basketball program, earned her fourth Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year honor. This season, Binford led MSU to its first back-to-back 20 win seasons since 2015-16, 2016-17. She has also guided the Bobcats to two NCAA appearances as well as the WNIT in 2016. In all, Binford has five 20-win campaigns, as well as four regular season Big Sky titles. She is currently 312-232 overall and 197-119 in Big Sky action. Both of those marks rank second all-time in Big Sky history.
Montana State opens play at the 2023 Big Sky Conference tournament on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., facing either Portland State or Idaho State at 2:30 p.m. in Boise's Idaho Central Arena.
