Montana State’s second tournament of spring play features 17 teams, four of which are from the Big Sky Conference.
BOZEMAN, Mont. — Continuing its spring season, the Montana State women's golf team will travel to Arizona to compete at the Grand Canyon University Invitational, held at the GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz. from Feb. 27-28.
The Bobcats will tee off at 8 a.m. MT on both days during the 36-hole tournament, which features 17 teams and four Big Sky Conference opponents. Live scores will be provided by Golfstat; a link will be provided on the Montana State women's golf team's schedule page at msubobcats.com.
Scarlet Weidig-Velazquez, Kameryn Basye, Maddie Montoya, Lauren Greeny and Jordan Briggs will represent the Bobcats. According to MSU head coach Brittany Basye, only Briggs and Kameryn Basye have had experience playing at the GCU Golf Course. MSU played in the GCU Invitational last year and placed 17th out of 20 teams.
The Bobcats are coming off a fourth place showing at the Mountain Classic Match Play tournament several weeks ago, in which MSU beat Portland State in the quarterfinals, hung with Nevada in a semifinal loss, then fell 3-1-1 to Boise State in the last match. Kameryn Basye was the only Bobcat to win or tie all three of her matches, while Lauren Greeny and Maddie Montoya picked up wins to help MSU beat Portland State.
"The ladies showed some positive areas of their games in Palm Springs," Head coach Brittany Basye said. "We will continue working on the short game shots that maybe are not so easy to practice inside and continue to work on our ball striking now that we will be outside again on grass. We want to continue the course management focus, play our own games, and control what we can control."
After this tournament, the Bobcats will have one week to prepare for the University of Hawai'i's Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, held at Ewa Beach, Oahu on March 6-7. All schedule updates can be found on the women's golf team's schedule page on msubobcats.com.
