Two men atop the Cal Poly program have seen some things in Bobcat Stadium
BOZEMAN, Montana - Cal Poly coach Paul Wulff possesses many positive memories in Bobcat Stadium. But you'd be better off not asking about a late-autumn afternoon in 2002.
On November 9 that season, with the Bobcats leading 18-14, Eastern Washington was on the march. With 68 seconds remaining and the Eagles on the Bobcat 24-yard line, Cordeiro stepped in front of a Jeff Blankenhip lateral and rambled 76 yards for a game-clinching score. The Bobcats had taken an 18-14 lead about 10 minutes of game time earlier on a Travis Lulay pass to Scott Turnquist.
That win against Eastern and head coach Paul Wulff, a long-time Eagles assistant who was elevated to the head coaching position when Mike Kramer left for Montana State, was the second straight miracle win for the Bobcats in their march to the Big Sky title. The Cats had beaten Sacramento State the week before on an untimed field goal after Turnquist was pulled down by his face mask on the last play of regulation time. Nate Cook's aim was true, and Montana State's roll had begun.
Wulff won three of his four games as EWU's head coach in Bobcat Stadium, was 2-1 in Cheney or Spokane, and was 1-0 as Washington State's head coach against the Bobcats.

Montana State quarterback Tommy Mellott is slated to start today's game against Cal Poly, although the number of snaps he takes remains up in the air in the hours leading up to kickoff. Sean Chambers is expected to take the majority of plays.

The Montana State-Cal Poly series has some roots, but from the beginning has been one of streaks. After the Mustangs handed Montana State its only loss in 1958, the Bobcats won two straight. Cal Poly won in 1972, the Bobcats won back-to-back games in 1995 and 1996, then CP ran off seven straight victories. That string ended in 2014, and the next year the Cats began their current six-game streak.

Cal Poly leads the all-time series 10-9.

MSU's 72-28 win in San Luis Obispo last season marked Montana State's all-time single-game rushing record (549 yards) and the second-most points a Bobcat team has ever scored against a Big Sky foe.
