BOBCAT GAME DAY NOTEBOOK #1: Kaegun Williams to Miss Season Opener

Bobcats open season in temperatures fit for a McNeese home game...
Montana State running back Kaegun Williams, a grad transfer from San Diego State who won starting running back honors during the preseason, is out for today's season opener, Bobcat head coach Brent Vigen announced.
The non-practice related injury will be evaluated this week, Vigen indicated. Junior Lane Sumner draws the start against McNeese, with freshman Jared White slotting as the backup.

When Saturday's game kicks off the temperature will be the hottest in Reno H. Sales/Bobcat Stadium history. The mid-90s kickoff will actually be comfortably (uncomfortably?) warmer than the previous high. Here are the five hottest temps at kickoff:
89 9/8/79 vs. North Dakota
87 9/5/98 vs. Fort Lewis
87 8/31/91 vs. Minnesota-Duluth
84 9/16/89 vs. Eastern Washington
82 9/6/03 vs. Gardner-Webb
The stadium opened as Reno H. Sales Stadium in 1973.
The hottest temperature at kickoff in Montana State football history in the last 50 years is 96 degrees three times: at Texas Tech in 2019, at Sam Houston State in 1989, and at Fresno State in 1974.

There are several deep connections between the two teams today. Bobcat defensive coordinator Willie Mack Garza served as McNeese's defensive secondary coach the past two seasons.
Cowboys receiver Koby Duru began his college career as a Bobcat in 2018, then transferred to San Diego State. This is his senior season, and his first at McNeese. Duru did not play in a game for the Cats, but senior safety Ty Okada remembers him well. "He's a playmaker," Okada said. "He's a good player."
