BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montana State freshman libero Lauren Lindseth has been named the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Lindseth, a product of Great Falls, guided the Bobcats to a 2-0 mark on opening week of Big Sky play. The CMR grad averaged a conference best 6.14 digs per game, totaling 43 saves over seven sets. "Lauren had a great opening weekend of conference play," said MSU acting head coach Cole Aiazzi. "We knew what she was capable of when we were recruiting her, and she's done a great job getting comfortable and filling the role this team needs from the libero jersey." In its 3-0 sweep of Eastern Washington, Lindseth posted a team-high 19 digs, averaging 6.33 saves per game. She followed that performance with 24 digs (6.00 dps) as the Bobcats defeated defending Big Sky champion Northern Colorado on Saturday night in Greeley.
THE MAIN LINE TROPHY: The battle for the Main Line Trophy will also be contested Friday night. The Main Line Trophy sees its fifth match since beginning in February of 2021. The volleyball-only award features a bronze bell with each school's logo represented. It is housed in a black cast-iron frame and mounted on a wooden base. The Main Line Trophy is a symbol of longevity, resilience, and strength. It is a whimsical throwback to the early mining boom and the railroad that brought only the hardiest citizenry to the Treasure State. It was a time when you could hear the railway bells resonating from Hellgate to Gateway. Montana State captured the first three Main Line Trophy matches, with the Griz currently housing it after its 3-2 win over MSU last October.

The sophomore from Ennis posted 23 kills, averaging 3.29 kills per set, while recording a .396 (23-4-48) attack mark. Klein had 13 kills and hit .500 (13-2-22) in MSU's win over defending Big Sky champion Northern Colorado on Saturday night in Cheney...Last week, the Bobcats were led at the net by Jordan Radick, who registered 11 blocks, including nine (3BS, 6BA) at UNC.

UM's non-conference victories came over North Dakota, UT Arlington, Saint Francis, IUPUI, Prairie View A&M, UNC Greensboro and Charleston Southern. The Grizzlies have been paced this season by Ellie Scherffius, who is second in the Big Sky overall with a .336 attack mark, and Paige Clark, who is second averaging 3.79 kills per set. Montana is currently second in the league in kills (13.04), hitting percentage (.230), and assists (12.21).
HARD BLOCK CAFE:
After the opening week of Big Sky Conference action, the Bobcats are the top blocking team in the league averaging 3.14 per set. Individually, Jordan Radick is second in the Big Sky averaging 1.57 blocks per set, while Emma Pence and Jourdain Klein rank seventh at 1.29 blocks per outing. On the season, Montana State is ranked third in the league averaging 2.34, which is 73rd in the nation. Pence is MSU's top blocker overall and is listed sixth in the Big Sky at 1.02 bps, which is 191st nationally.

As the MSU program continues to improve, its numbers within the Big Sky statistical categories have shown remarkable improvement, as well. In the 12 team statistical categories after the opening week of Big Sky action, the Cats rank among the top three in the league in nine categories, including #1 in kills (13.86), assists (13.00), blocks (3.14), opponent blocks (1.43), opponent service aces (0.86); #2 in opponent hitting percentage (.131), opponent kills (11.14) and digs (16.86); and #3 in opponent assists (10.43). Junior Emma Pence continues her assault on the Bobcat blocks records. The season, the product of Carson City, Nevada, has totaled 47 blocks, averaging 1.02 per set. Last fall, Pence was one of the top blockers in the nation averaging 1,34 blocks per set, which led the Big Sky and ranked 14th in the nation. Pence's 151 total blocks was tops in the league and seventh in the country.

Radick recorded a career-high 14 kills as the Bobcats upset Boise State 3-2, on Sept. 15 in Shroyer Gym. She has been in double-figure kills on three occasions this fall and had notched four matches with four or more blocks.

Sophomore Courtney Weatherby has done an outstanding job on the outside for the Bobcats this fall. The native of Kuna, Idaho has played in 14 matches and 57 sets, averaging 2.37 kills and 2.35 digs per set. Weatherby recorded a career-high 20 kills against St. Thomas (MN) at the Bobcat Classic en route to being named to the all-tournament team. In all, she has been in double-digit kills on eight occasions, and double-figure digs eight times. She leads the Bobcats with seven double-doubles. Weatherby tallied a season-high 22 saves as the Bobcats defeated Fordham on Sept. 9. Weatherby has also done a fantastic job from the service line, leading the Bobcats with 18 aces. She posted three aces against Grand Canyon and Fordham. Last Saturday at Northern Colorado, Weatherby registered a career-high three blocks, with one solo, and two block assists against the Bears.
