Bobcats, Wildcats get together again after 43-38 thriller in Bozeman on October 22
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State's first FCS Playoff contest of 2022 sets up as historic as it is challenging, when No. 10 Weber State visits Bobcat Stadium to battle the Bobcats in a rematch of a heart-stopping regular season showdown between the two long-time Big Sky rivals.
The Bobcats (10-1, 8-0) and Weber State kick off at 1 pm in Bobcat Stadium Saturday, with the October 22 game between a pair of top five teams still fresh. MSU won a 43-38 thriller in a game dominated by special teams. The Wildcats scored 14 points on a punt and a kickoff returned for touchdowns, but gave away eight points on safeties resulting from punt snaps. When unusual kick team events weren't tossing the game into confusion, the Bobcat offense rolled up xxx rushing yards and held
Montana State rushed for 347 yards that afternoon, allowing the Wildcats just 256 total yards, and gained 6.4 yards per play to Weber's 3.6. The turnover margin was even that day, one by each team, but on the season MSU is second in the FCS (+1.36) while the Wildcats stand 42nd (+0.25).
Two of the best running backs in the FCS today are scheduled to compete Saturday. Weber State's Josh Davis didn't play against Montana State in October, but he rushed for 80 yards in the regular season finale and 129 and two touchdowns last week against North Dakota. Davis is fourth in the FCS in career rushing yards among active players (3,772 yards), while Bobcat star Isaiah Ifanse is fifth (3,461). Ifanse is slated to make his season debut on Saturday.
Montana State stands second in nationally with 325.7 rushing yards per game, but the Bobcats face a test on Saturday. Weber State stands 30th, allowing 126.9 yards a game.
Kickoff is 1 pm in Bobcat Stadium, and the game is streamed on ESPN+.
