Montana State made its first six shots to build an early 14-2 lead and never looked back as the Bobcats cruised to a 93-39 win over South Dakota Mines in exhibition action on Saturday afternoon in Worthington Arena.
Montana State finished the opening quarter shooting 52.6% from the field and holding a 25-5 advantage.
"I really liked our start," said 18th-year Ellen Kreighbaum Head Women's Basketball Coach Tricia Binford. "We shot the ball well and kept it simple. We had good ball movement, and defensively, I thought our pressure was good throughout the entire game."
Montana State went 17-of-35 from the floor in the first half entering intermission with a 46-15 advantage.
Thirteen of MSU's 14 players scored and all saw at least six minutes of action as the Bobcat took its largest lead at 93-37 on a Lindsey Hein layup with just over a minute remaining.
"Our bench is a strength," Binford said. "Everyone contributed and brought it when they were on the court. We certainly have some things to clean up under the glass, but this was a good first step."
Senior Darian White led all players with 16 points shooting 7-of-12 and adding three assists and three steals. Also in double-figures for MSU were Leia Beattie and Hein with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Bobcats were led under the boards by Madison Jackson with a team-high five rebounds. The senior from Parma, Idaho also chipped in eight points. Newcomer Grace Beasley dished out a game-high seven assists, while adding six points and three steals.
MSU finished shooting 48.6% from the field, and were 10-of-21 from long distance and 13-of-14 at the free throw line.
Montana State opens its regular season on Monday when it hosts Providence at 11 a.m. in Worthington Arena.
