Montana State and BYU will be meeting for the 19th time since starting its all-time series during the 1978-79 season, Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. in Provo, Utah.

The two squads met last winter in Bozeman as the No. 19-ranked Cougars handed the Bobcats an 89-67 setback in Worthington Arena. MSU's last win over BYU came on Dec. 30, 2010, as the Bobcats won in Provo, 58-49. Current Bobcat assistant coach Katie Bussey notched 11 points for MSU in the victory. Montana State is 2-8 all-time at BYU and 3-5 in Bozeman.
BOBCAT BITES: Montana State returns four starters to this year's squad, including preseason Big Sky Conference MVP pick Darian White and preseason all-conference selection Kola Bad Bear. The duo led the Bobcats to a 22-13 overall mark, a 14-6 Big Sky Conference ledger, and the program's third NCAA appearance, last season. Montana State defeated Weber State, Idaho, and Northern Arizona to capture the Big Sky tourney title in Boise, Idaho, with White earning tournament MVP honors, and Bad Bear being named all-tournament. MSU went on to face No. 2 Stanford in the opening-round of the NCAAs where it dropped a 78-37 decision to the Cardinal. For their efforts, White was a unanimous Big Sky Conference First-Team selection, while also earning her second consecutive Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year honor. Bad Bear was named Third Team All-Big Sky.
PRESEASON ACCOLADES: Montana State seniors Darian White and Kola Bad Bear each earned preseason Big Sky All-Conference team recognition, announced by the league office. White was named preseason MVP and was one of two players unanimously selected to the team, while Bad Bear gained all-league accolades, as well. White, a product of Boise, Idaho, was the 2022 Big Sky Conference Tournament MVP after averaging 18.3 points, 5.0 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals over the course of MSU's three-game run to guide the program to its third trip to the NCAA tournament. On the season, the two-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year, led the Bobcats in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game, while also chipping in 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.5 steals. She is the only player in MSU history to record over 1,225 points, 425 rebounds, 325 assists and 225 steals in a career. Bad Bear, who was a 2022 All-Big Sky Third Team pick, had a breakout performance at last year's Big Sky tournament, averaging 17 points per game, while shooting 61.3% from the field, en route to being name to the all-tournament team. The Billings Senior grad was second on the team in scoring averaging 10.9 points and led MSU under the glass averaging 5.0 rebounds per contest.
THE SCOUTING REPORT: BYU is 0-1 on the season after dropping an 82-62 decision at Colorado State on Nov. 8. The Cougars, who were ranked #22 in the CollegeInsider Women's Mid Major Top 25 Preseason poll, were led in the loss by Arielle Mackey-Williams with 18 points, including 16 in the first half. BYU led the contest at halftime 39-35 but couldn't hold off the Rams who outscored the Cougars 47-23 in the second stanza. BYU was picked to finish third in the West Coast Conference preseason poll behind Gonzaga and Portland. Junior forward Lauren Gustin was named to the preseason All-WCC team. Gustin, a product of Salem, Utah, had 12 points and 13 rebounds in BYU's loss at Colorado State. The Cougars are under the direction of first-year head coach Amber Whiting, who led Burley (Idaho) High School to the 4A state championships, last winter.
