The fourth edition of the Battle at Old Works will feature a four-team field beginning on Monday as Montana State hosts the tournament in Anaconda at Old Works Golf Course. The event makes its return for the first time since 2019 and includes MSU, Montana, Eastern Washington and Idaho State.
"It'll be a Big Sky Conference field that has players that are playing well right now," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "I think it'll be a great showdown. The weather is supposed to be nice and from what we've heard, the course is in great condition which helps. Everybody we've had compete in the tournament always says how much they enjoy playing the course and Old Works is excited to have us there."
The four teams are slated to play two rounds of golf Monday, while the final set of 18 holes takes place starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Every program in the field has participated in each edition of the Battle at Old Works. Eastern Washington won the tournament title in 2018, MSU has finished as high third in that same 2018 event, while Montana had the first ever individual champion at the 2017 event in Baylee Barckley.
"All the teams that will be playing in the tournament have played at Old Works before, so that'll add a little bit to the competition," Basye said. "It's a tournament that allows us another event to compete in that we can drive to and is fairly regionally located."
Montana State has played in two tournaments so far this fall and the Battle at Old Works will serve as the third of five events before MSU takes a break in competition until the spring portion of its schedule. The Bobcats are still piecing their lineup for the spring together. Six golfers have played in MSU's opening two tournaments. This event will allow all nine players on the roster an opportunity to get in the mix in a Division I field.
"I'm looking forward to getting all nine of our golfers playing at the same time to see how they compete," Basye said. "Everybody on our team, except for Jordan (Briggs), has played Old Works multiple times. That'll be a positive for us as we prepare to make the trip to Anaconda.
