Saturday's game serves as the sendoff for 19 graduating or graduated players
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State wraps up its regular season home schedule on Saturday, hosting Idaho at 1 pm in Bobcat Stadium. Ceremonies honoring 19 Bobcat seniors begin at 12:30 pm.
The Cats enter the regular season's final two weeks with all of its goals still attainable, but the next task at hand is to finish off a regular season without a blemish in Bobcat Stadium. The team's coaches, though, know that will be no easy task.
"You watch this team (on video) and you can't figure out how they're 3-6," said defensive coordinator Freddie Banks. "This is a good football team."
Head coach Brent Vigen echoed those feelings. "I know the season hasn't gone the way they'd want in terms of record," he said, "but Idaho has a very good team. They have good talent, they're well-coached."
The Vandals (3-6 overall, 2-4 in Big Sky play) ride a hot hand into Bobcat Stadium, whipping Southern Utah 42-24 last week. Running back Roshaun led the effort by scoring all six Vandals touchdowns while rushing for 174 yards. Quarterback Mike Beaudry posted an efficient 16-for-23 passing day with 217 yards, and Elisha Cummings added 99 yards on the ground. The Vandals average 28.0 points per game, rushing for 180.8 per contest.
That sets up an pivotal matchup between the Vandals' ground game and a Bobcat front seven that surrenders 119.0 yards a game on the ground, 28th in the FCS. The only two Big Sky opponents to rush for more than 100 yards against Montana State this season were Cal Poly, which sprung a surprise by utilizing the triple option, and Idaho State, which did most of its groundwork in the fourth quarter when the game had been decided.
The other side of that equation presents opportunities for the Bobcats, who lead the Big Sky with 227.8 rushing yards a game. The Vandals allow 180.8 yards a game on the ground. Isaiah Ifanse leads the Big Sky with 124.9 rushing yards a game, second in the FCS. His dominance in the ground is accented by Lance McCutcheon's 90 receiving yards a game. MSU's stifling defense allows just 280.2 yards a game, 11th-most in the FCS.
Saturday's game begins at 1 pm in Bobcat Stadium, and serves as the senior sendoff for 19 student-athletes: LB Troy Andersen (Dillon), DT Chase Benson (Helena), TE Ryan Davis (Billings), S Tadan Gilman (Kalispell), WR Peyton Hanser (Billings), DE Daniel Hardy (Beaverton, Oregon), TE Jarrett Kessler (Kalispell), OT Lewis Kidd (Minneapolis, Minnesota), WR Lance McCutcheon (Bozeman), OG Dylan Porter (Elmira, Oregon), DT Byron Rollins (Missoula), QB Tucker Rovig (Meridian, Idaho), DT Kyle Rygg (Eugene, Oregon), WR Coy Steel (Sheridan, Wyoming), WR Nate Stewart (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania), CB Tyrel Thomas (Compton, California), OG Taylor Tuiasosopo (Lancaster, California), S Tre Webb (Riverside, California), and DE Amandre Williams (Maple Valley, Washington).
The tilt is televised across the state on Fox stations, and in Billings on SWX (503 on cable, 8.2 over the air). Streaming is on ESPN+, and it is available across Montana on the Bobcat Radio Network as well as on the Varsity Network.
