BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State women's golf team is set to add two players to its squad ahead of the 2022-23 season as the Bobcats received national letters of intent from Lauren Basye and Lauren Greeny on Wednesday.
"Both Laurens are going to bring added depth, competitive experience and core values that encompass what our program is about," said Montana State head coach Brittany Basye. "The future is bright!"
Lauren Basye hails from Gilbert, Ariz., and is currently a senior at Highland high school. A standout for the Hawks' golf team, Basye earned seven top-five individual finishes in Junior Golf Association Tournaments this past year. She recently helped her team complete a first-place showing at the Prescott Invitational behind her career-low score of even-par 72 at Antelope Hills Golf Course. She was a contributor to a squad that placed sixth at their respective state championship.
She won the Tempe Invitational by shooting a 73 in the fall of 2020 and was also an individual medalist in three more events that year. Basye intends to major in environmental engineering at Montana State and has been successful academically. She has been Summa Cum Laude every year of high school. The Valedictorian for her class, she's been awarded as an AP Scholar and a Gilbert Golden Scholar. Basye has participated in Key Club, National Honors Society, Extra Mile Club and Student Council. She's also been the recipient of the President Volunteer Service award and the Prudential Community award.
Her inclusion to the program adds another Basye to the program, one that isn't related to head coach Brittany Basye or current junior Kameryn Basye.
"Lauren is a great student-athlete who puts huge effort into her studies and golf game," Brittany Basye said. "She is at the top of her class in academics and has built an impressive golf resume with a lot of tournament play. She will be a great addition to Bobcat golf."
Lauren Greeny will join the Bobcats next fall by the way of Pullman, Wash. Greeny is a two-time All-League team honoree and was Washington's 2A Girls Player of the Year as a junior. The Pullman high school standout has been her squad's team MVP all three of her prep seasons and has also been a three-time All-Conference Academic Team selection.
Greeny is a four-time letterwinner for the Greyhounds and also earned a letter in volleyball. She's carded a 63 during her career at Palouse Ridge golf course and also carded a hole-in-one at Indian Canyon. A member of National Honors Society, Greeny previously won the Idaho District 5 Championships in 2020 by carding a two-round total of 155 strokes. Lauren is the daughter of Jennifer and Burdette, the respective head coach and associate head coach for the Washington State University volleyball program.
"Coming from a rural town in Washington State where the weather can be similar to Bozeman, Greeny brings a lot of athleticism and grit as a multi-sport athlete," said Brittany Basye. "With a family history in athletics, we are excited for Greeny to make an instant impact on our team."
