Both Montana State squads picked to finish among top half of teams in preseason coaches' polls
FARMINGTON, Utah – The Big Sky Conference announced its 2020 Men's and Women's Cross Country Coaches' Preseason Polls on Wednesday, July 22. The Montana State men were selected third and the women were slotted fifth in their respective polls, reflecting each team's finish at the 2019 conference meet held in Greeley, Colo.
The Bobcat men's squad's third-place showing at last season's championship was its best since 2012. MSU scored 74 points in the team standings, its lowest point total recorded since the 2010 championships. Collin Buck and Duncan Hamilton earned all-conference honors a season ago and will help lead a team that has four others returning that were featured in MSU's lineup throughout the 2019 schedule.
Montana State's women's team was paced a season ago by Big Sky champion and All-American Camila Noe who will be entering her sophomore year of eligibility in cross country. The Bobcats are expected to have three runners return who made an impact on the 2019 team that took fifth overall with 116 points last November at the Big Sky meet. MSU's women's squad has nine runners on its roster that could make their collegiate cross country debuts.
Northern Arizona swept the Big Sky titles at the 2019 championships and were picked to complete the feat in the 2020 preseason polls. Both the Lumberjack men and women were unanimous selections. Head coaches were allowed to vote for their teams in both polls.
NAU was followed by Weber State (106) in the men's preseason poll while MSU (97) ranked narrowly ahead of Southern Utah (94). The Thunderbirds were picked to finish second in the women's poll with 100 points behind NAU. The Bobcats with 85 points ranked behind Weber State (96) and Idaho (90).
