Campus and conference administrators will re-evaluate sometime before April 3
BOZEMAN, Montana – The Big Sky Conference canceled the league's 2020 spring competitions and championships Tuesday after a unanimous vote of its Presidents' Council. Member schools are suspending practice sessions and workouts and closing the strength and conditioning facilities, weight rooms, and other facilities relying on shared equipment in response to the spread of COVID-19. The moves are effective immediately.
Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello said the Bobcat student-athletes maintain access to health care, athletic training, and academic services by appointment, and that all services remain available through digital methods. "Our top priority is always the health, safety, and well-being of our student-athletes," Costello said. "Working directly toward that goal, we want to continue to support them to the best of our abilities in the safest way possible."
Bobcat Athletics will use this time to provide the safest possible space inside Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, Costello said. "We're adding more hand sanitizers to public areas and we'll deep-clean the areas used by our student-athletes, such as the weight room, locker rooms, academic center, and athletic training and health care centers. We're looking at this as an opportunity to evaluate how we operate to provide the best possible environment for student-athletes, coaches, and staff while reducing the spread of COVID-19."
Prior to April 3 campus and conference officials will meet remotely to reevaluate the status of athletics operations in the league.
