6th Man Club supports the academic pursuits of Bobcat men's basketball student-athletes
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Danny Sprinkle knows the importance of Montana State men's basketball's 6th Man Club because he's seen it, from both sides.
"Montana State has always had such great support for men's basketball, and for all of our athletic programs," MSU's first-year head coach, a former all-conference Bobcat, said. "The 6th Man Club is so important to the way our program operates. Mick (Durham) got it rolling years ago, and it's been a great way to help our student-athletes in a number of ways. I want to invite all Bobcats to consider this way of supporting the men's basketball program."
The Club's initial event of Sprinkle's tenure as head coach is slated for mid-July. The 6th Man Club hosts a social and barbecue dinner at the Bozeman Ponds Pavilion on Thursday, July 18, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Similar events will follow throughout the year addressing scouting information and game analysis, recruiting updates, and other pertinent information.
Behind a restructured Board of Bobcat Supporters, Sprinkle said the 6th Man Club provides funding for summer classes for Bobcat men's basketball players, which allows team members to make progress toward their degree while participating in summer practice sessions. Donations also fund tutoring and other academic support services, winter clothing, team gear, supplementary nutrition and meal upgrades, scouting software, technology such as laptop computers and tablets, and recruiting if necessary.
Sprinkle announced that Dan Rust will serve as the organization's chairman this season, with board members Kevin Black, a former teammate of Sprinkle's on the Bobcats, Al Vosburg, Larry Aasheim, Steve Wheeler, and Paul Uitoven. "These people are all successful businessmen and great parts of our community," Sprinkle said. "So many people have helped make this transition smooth and committed to this program's success, like former coach Stu Starner, who has been a tremendous positive. The 6th Man Club is a way for everyone to contribute to our championship vision for the Bobcats."
Membership in the 6th Man Club comes with a $750 donation to men's basketball, with a membership year of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.
