Bobcat Women Pick-Up First Big Sky Conference Win at Portland State

Montana State (2-5, 1-2) took the opening point of the match as the No. 2 doubles tandem of Walker and Sarah Cheverie captured a hard-fought 7-6 decision over Portland State’s (0-1, 0-1) Alli Valk and Eszter Zador.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Annie Walker capped a solid weekend for the Montana State women's tennis team winning at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles to guide the Bobcats to a 5-2 win over Portland State on Saturday afternoon.
The win was MSU's first Big Sky Conference victory of the season.
Montana State (2-5, 1-2) took the opening point of the match as the No. 2 doubles tandem of Walker and Sarah Cheverie captured a hard-fought 7-6 decision over Portland State's (0-1, 0-1) Alli Valk and Eszter Zador.
The two teams split at Nos. 1 and 3 giving the No. 2 doubles outcome significance. MSU's top duo of Laura Mary and Linnea Fristam defeated Nina Nikitovic and Taylor Rees 6-3 to give the Cats the early momentum.
Mary gave Montana State a 2-0 advantage to open singles play with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win over Nikitovic at the No. 2 spot on the ladder. PSU closed to within 2-1 as Zador took No. 4 singles with a 7-6(1), 6-2 victory over Enni Zander.
MSU quickly responded as Fristam posted a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 over Valk. Walker, who moved-up the ladder to No. 1 singles, secured the Bobcat victory with a 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-0 win over Lotti Meszaros. Cheverie scored MSU's final point with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 decision over Ashley Knecht at No. 6 singles.
Montana State will play at Seattle U on Sunday morning.
