Montana State junior Collin Buck was honored after a strong weekend performance by being named the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week
FARMINGTON, Utah. – Montana State junior Collin Buck was honored after a strong weekend performance by being named the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Buck was Montana State's highest finisher at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. He placed seventh in a field of 392 runners.
Buck completed the men's 8-kilometer race in a time of 23 minutes, 37.2 seconds. That time was the fastest of Buck's collegiate career and the fastest by a Bobcat in an 8k race in the last four seasons. His finish helped lead the Bobcats to an eighth-place showing.
The Bobcat distance runner has been the men's team's top finisher in each of the two races he's participated in this season. He previously took first overall at the MSU Cross Country Classic held at Bridger Creek Golf Course in Bozeman on Sept. 21.
Buck is the first MSU men's runner to be awarded athlete of the week by the Big Sky this season. Camila Noe was selected as the Female Athlete of the Week earlier this year, while men's teammate Ty Mogan was selected once by the Big Sky during the 2018 season.
