Montana State continues its push towards the Big Sky and Mountain Region Cross Country Championships as the Bobcats prepare to participate in an elite field at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19. The meet takes place at Indiana State's LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, the site of this year's NCAA Championship meet.
Saturday's races feature 57 men's teams and 64 women's teams. Eleven of the men's squads and 10 on the women's side are nationally ranked.
"It's going to be another huge field, similar to the field size at the Paul Short Run," said Lyle Weese, Montana State's director of cross country. "The overall quality of the competition will be at higher level, so it will be a real challenge for us."
The Bobcats return to Pre-Nationals for the third time in four seasons. A year ago, the men placed 19th and the women finished 21st at the meet. Ty Mogan led the way for the Bobcat men by taking 32nd in a strong field of runners. Former Bobcat Kelsi Lasota and current junior Samantha Kelderman took 68th and 70th, respectively, in the women's field.
Montana State looks to bring a strong core of runners to compete and get some positive momentum ahead of the Big Sky Conference meet on Nov. 2.
"We are looking forward to having our team as healthy as possible heading into this meet as well as the Big Sky Conference Championships," Weese said. "We want to be able to go out there and just compete really well. Whether we place high or we don't as a team, we want to set up how we want to compete at the conference championships."
Montana State opens up competition in the Women's 6-Kilometer Blue Race at 9 a.m. MST. The Bobcat men follow by participating in the Blue 8K race. Fans can watch the races with a premium subscription on FloTrack or keep up with results on Prime Time Timing.
