Montana State was led in the loss by Natalie Passeck and Hannah Scott with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Carina Lehto dished out 33 assists and added nine digs, while libero Allyssa Rizzo posted a team-high 10 saves.
Northern Colorado combined a strong offensive attack with a stellar defensive effort to hand Montana State a 25-15, 25-22, 25-20 setback on Friday night in Bank of Colorado Arena.
Northern Colorado (7-6, 3-1) out-hit Montana State (6-9, 1-3) .333 to .056 in the opening set to take a 1-0 advantage. The Bobcats kept it close in the second frame before the Bears broke away from 19-all with four consecutive points. UNC used another big run in the final set. With the score knotted at 14-all, the Bears rattled off a 7-0 run to secure the match.
