Maleek Barkley, RB: you don't have to watch Maleek Barkley run for very long to notice a little of his brother's in his gait. Barkley is speedy, and quick, and when he gets into the open field look out. Shawn Johnson, Barkley's older brother and a great Bobcat, did a lot of that in the Blue & Gold. Barkley transferred to MSU after redshirting at Arkansas last year, and transitioned from receiver to running back early in fall camp. Expect the Bobcats to test the edge of defenses with Barkley early this season.
Spotlight – Dirk Nelson: When you do a job with negative feelings attached to it, you're often uner-appreciated. That's the case with most punters, but that was never really the case with Dirk Nelson. The Kansas State transfer came to MSU as a walk-on in 1981 and finished in the top 15 nationally among Division I-AA punters in his final three seasons. He was lauded as an All-America candidate by the school's excellent SID Bruce Parker, and by his senior season he'd earned First Team honors. He was also a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America that season, and has worked in higher education since 1989. He is presently Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at West Texas A&M. Among his many honors are Montana State University's Society of Centennial Alumni.
