The regular season comes to a close for the Montana State golf team when it hosts the Bobcat Spring Invitational starting on Monday, April 9, at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
Montana State competes in a 16-team field with teams teeing off at approximately 8:45 a.m. MDT on Monday. The first two rounds of the Invitational will take place Monday, with the final round of action beginning at 8:45 a.m. MDT on Tuesday. The course will play at a par 72 and 6,277 yards.
The Golf Club of Estrella has become a familiar site for the Bobcats over the years. Last season, MSU took eighth among 14 teams at the Goodyear course. Leading the way for MSU was sophomore Delaney Elliott. The then-freshman finished in a tie for 21st overall at 12-over (228).
The Bobcats play in their final tournament before heading to the Big Sky Conference Championship which runs from April 20-22 in Boulder City, Nev.
MSU has a team scoring average of 307 strokes per round through eight events this season. Sophomore Kelly Hooper has finished among the top 20 in the individual standings in her last four outings for the Bobcats, including her medalist honors she claimed at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Feb. 25. She leads the team with a 74.88 scoring average over the course of 24 rounds this year.
Senior Jaylee Tait narrowly trails Hooper with her a 75.29 scoring average through 21 rounds. Tait is the team leader with seven even-par or better rounds and has finished no higher than 35th as an individual at a tournament this year.
Those two will take up MSU's top two spots in its lineup at the Bobcat Spring Invitational. Competing in the final three positions for the Bobcats are Clare Dittemore, Elliott and Lilly Navarre.
Dittemore has appeared in 21 rounds for MSU and improved her scoring average to 79.57 per round thanks to her 18-over (234) at the most recent Cowgirl Classic. Elliott averages a 78 per round and has played in every tournament for the Bobcats this season. Navarre, in her debut campaign for MSU, has participated in all eight meets on the schedule and has a scoring average of 80.33.
