“I was happy with the way we started and got out of the gate,” Binford said. “And, I liked how we finished in the last couple of minutes. In between, we lost some chemistry and the two areas we’ve been harping on, rebounding and turnovers, are something we need to get better on.”
Heading into its annual Blue/Gold Scrimmage 14th-year head coach Tricia Binford wanted her squad to strengthen its chemistry and play a full 40-minutes at game speed.
And, she wanted it all on film for evaluation.
Mission accomplished as the Gold squad defeated the Blue 85-64 on Friday night in Shroyer Gym.
"Overall, we were able to get our legs underneath us," Binford said. "I thought we kept it very simple early and got some looks and hit some shots. Both teams shot the ball really well, and then we started to get some fatigue and got somewhat sloppy. Our shot selection was really early, and turnovers started to jump up."
The Bobcats looked sharp in the opening 20-minutes, connecting on 14-30 from long distance paced by sophomore Tori Martell, who connected on four-of-six from beyond the arc. Martell, a guard from Somerset, Wis., led all players with 19 points.
Also hitting double-figures for MSU were Kamden Hilborn 14, and Oliana Squires and transfer Fallyn Freije with 11 points, apiece.

Montana State was paced under the glass by Freije and Madeline Smith with nine and six rebounds, respectively. Freije, a transfer from North Dakota, will sit out the 2018-19 campaign under NCAA transfer rules.
The Bobcats will host Montana Western on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. in exhibition action. MSU opens its regular-season hosting Carroll College on Nov.6.
