Bobcat Men Fifth, Women Seventh in Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Polls

The Montana State cross country teams will look to finish higher than predicted within the conference as the Big Sky released its preseason polls Monday
OGDEN, Utah - The Montana State cross country teams were selected among the Big Sky Conference coaches to finish fifth and seventh, respectively, in the league's men's and women's preseason coaches' polls released Monday, Aug. 21.
The MSU men's team received 91 points in the preseason poll, 12 ahead of Idaho State and 13 behind Idaho. Reigning national champion Northern Arizona was predicted to win the Big Sky title with 141 points and nine first-place votes. Southern Utah earned 135 points behind three first-place votes.
The Bobcats women's squad received 75 points, just two shy of Eastern Washington for the sixth spot in the poll. NAU won last season's women's title and was predicted to finish first again behind 10 first-place votes and 141 points. Weber State (122) and Montana (113) followed the Lumberjacks with a first-place vote apiece.
Montana State will try to improve on its sixth- and seventh-place showings from a year ago at the Big Sky Conference meet. This season's championship will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Riverside Golf Course in Riverdale, Utah. The Bobcats are scheduled to open their season on Saturday, Sept. 16, with the MSU-Bozeman Running Co. Invitational at Bridger Creek Golf Course.
