Shooting woes, turnovers spell doom for MSU
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan scored 13 of the game's first 15 points on its way to a 75-48 home win over Montana State on Tuesday.
The Chippewas forced a season-high 17 MSU turnovers, including seven in the game's first 11 possessions, and limited the Cats to 29% shooting. "We just couldn't make shots," said Bobcat head coach Brian Fish, "and we turned the ball over too much. The first half was really a struggle, and that carried over all night."
Montana State's shooting night was the team's worst since November or 2014, and MSU finished just 1-for-16 from the three-point arc. "We haven't had many shooting nights like this since we've been here," Fish said.
The onslaught began early. CMU scored seven points on their first three possessions, and after a Devonte Klines bucket at the 17:27 mark the Cats didn't score again for four-and-a-half minutes. The team shot just 26% before halftime.
Harald Frey led the Bobcats with 12 points, while Zach Green came off the bench to snag a game-high 10 rebounds. Four Chippewas finished in double-figures scoring, led by Kevin McKay's 17 points. Bobcat forward Tyler Hall finished without scoring for the first time in his MSU career.
CMU raised its record to 7-1 with the win, while MSU is now 6-4. The Bobcats play at home Saturday, hosting UC Santa Barbara in Worthington Arena at 2 pm.
