Bobcats Outlast MSU Northern for Exhibition Win in Bozeman

Tyler Hall scores 15 points but a pair of newcomers also helped the cause
Tyler Hall led all players with 15 points but a pair of newcomers were equally impactful in Montana State's 78-73 win over MSU Northern in Bozeman on Wednesday.
Keljin Blevins and Konner Frey, seeing their first game action after sitting out 2016-17 to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, each filled up several box score columns Wednesday. Blevins scored 13 points but grabbed six boards, blocked two shots, and added an assist and a steal. He finished seven-for-seven from the line. Frey led all players with 11 boards, snagged four steals and dished out three assists. He also scored nine points.
The Bobcats built 10-point leads in each half, but MSU Northern clawed back each time. The Cats led 20-10, but a 9-0 Lights run drew Northern back into the game. MSU Northern closed the first half on an 8-2 run to take a 39-38 into halftime. Montana State built the lead back to 10 with seven minutes to play, but Northern answered with an 11-1 run to tie the game at 67 with just over four minutes to play. But MSU responded with five quick points and never trailed again.
Five Lights finished in double-digits scoring, led by Ryan Reeves and Bozeman's Adam Huse with 13 points each. Devin Bray added a dozen. MSU out-rebounded Northern 41-to-30 while forcing 18 turnovers, but MSU turned the ball over 17 times. The Bobcats hit 32 of their 41 free throws, while MSUN was 18-for-26 from the line. Northern hit nine three-pointers, while MSU shot just 2-for-11 from the arc.
Montana State opens the 2017-18 regular season on November 10 in Great Falls against Omaha. Tipoff is 6 pm.
