Bobcats post top defensive effort of season
Montana State snapped a three-game skid with a decisive 68-53 victory over Northern Colorado in Bozeman on Saturday.
The Bobcats resurrected their three-point shooting, Cats knocked down ten shots from being the arc—compared to only six on Thursday against North Dakota. Sophomore Tyler Hall and freshman Harald Frey each knocked down three, while junior Zach Green made back-to-back triples to open the second half.
The Bobcats showed offensive balance, with three players scoring double-digits. Frey led the way with 19 points, while leading-scorer Hall scored 13 points while battling flu-like symptoms. Sophomore Sam Neman netted 12.
Fresh off Thursday's game, when the team was plagued by turnovers and poor free throw shooting, the Bobcats reduced those mistakes Saturday. The Cats only turned the over 13 times, and shot 12-16, 75%, from the line.
Montana State's defense proved tough, forcing a season-high 21 turnovers and converting them into 23 points. The Cats also held Northern Colorado to a season's-best 53 points.
Northern Colorado's Jordan Davis scored 19 points for the Bears, who fall to 7-10 overall, 3-3 conference play. The Bobcats raised their record to 7-12 overall, 2-4 in the league. MSU plays Thursday night at Sacramento State. Tip-off at 8 pm.
