Nico Harrison, Jack Gillespie, Joe McKethen among MSU greats returning
If you've ever wondered whether Montana State's 1986 Big Sky Championship team could hold its own against the 1996 league champs, Saturday might be a big day for you.
The Bobcat men's basketball program will host its second Alumni Weekend, with around 70 players scheduled to participate in Saturday's 11:30 am scrimmage. Among the players expected to don the Blue and Gold again, seven played on MSU's 1986 title-winning team and four more belong to the '96 squad.
"This is a really fun event and it's something that fans and former players like talking about when I see them," said Bobcat coach Brian Fish. "I know our fans like watching their favorites get out there and play a little bit, and it's really a special event for players to reconnect to the program and to teammates. It's a lot of fun."
Among the luminaries scheduled to participate this weekend are Academic All-America Nico Harrison, former Big Sky MVPs Tom Domako and Jason Erickson, and All-Americas Jack Gillespie and Joe McKethen, who is one of seven men who played for the Cats in the 1950s making their way back to Bozeman for the weekend. Former coach Stu Starner will help run the show.
The event, comprised of two 12-minute quarters, features long-time Voice of the Cats Dean Alexander on the microphone and is open to the public.
