Seven Bobcats Elected Team Captains for 2016 Season

Montana State football coach Jeff Choate knows it's a large group, but the number doesn't matter to him. The leadership does.
"Some of these guys emerged as leaders very early on and some as time went, but I think the players did an excellent job picking this group of captains," Choate said in announcing his first group of teams captains as MSU's head coach. Seven players were selected as captains for the 2016 season, and Choate indicated that two from that group – plus one player chosen on a game-by-game basis – will represent the team at the coin toss each game.
Montana State's 2016 captains: Junior linebacker Mac Bignell (Drummond), senior running back Gunnar Brekke (Helena), senior linebacker Fletcher Collins (Seattle), senior offensive guard JP Flynn (Bettendorf, Iowa), junior safety Khari Garcia (Pomona, California), junior safety Bryson McCabe (Spirit Lake, Iowa), and senior running back Chad Newell (Billings).
The demographics and notes on this year's captains: Newell is a second-year captain, only MSU's second two-time captain (with Na'a Moeakiola) since 2009… Mac Bignell follows his father Joe (1984) and cousin Clay (2011) in captaining the MSU football team… JP Flynn and Bryson McCabe are the first Bobcat team captains on record from Iowa… seven is the largest number of captains ever elected by a Bobcat team… McCabe and Khari Garcia are the first defensive backs elected by their teammates since Michael Rider and Jordan Craney in 2010... Gunnar Brekke gives MSU a team captain from Helena in four of the last six seasons, while Newell joins the Schreibeis brothers and Rider as the only Bobcat captains from Billings since Kane Ioane's playing days ended in 2003.
