Bobcat Basketball Signee Invited to 2016 Women’s U18 National Team Trials

Montana State women’s basketball signee Oliana Squires of Colorado Springs, Colorado is one of 27 players invited to attend the 2016 Women’s U18 National Team Trials in Colorado Springs later this month at the United States Olympic Training Center.

The trials will be used to select the 12-member roster for the 2016 USA U18 Women's Basketball team that will compete at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships July 13-17 in Valdivia, Chile.
"This is such an incredible recognition not only for Oliana but for our program's first athlete to be selected to USA trials," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. "We knew Oliana was talented and this invite recognizes her abilities. We are so happy for her to get this opportunity to compete against the best, and whatever the outcome, it will only pay dividends to her basketball future and development."
Fourteen players boasting prior USA Basketball experience, including 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship gold medalists Lauren Cox and Crystal Dangerfield, headline the list of invitees. Cox, a Baylor signee is considered the No. 1 prospect by espnW HoopGurlz, while Dangerfield, a UConn commit is the No. 3 prospect as a senior.
"There is a strong group of returning athletes that will benefit from the additional opportunities. We also have a strong group of first-time participants," said Jim Foster (Tennessee-Chattanooga), chair of the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee, which is responsible for issuing the invitations to participate in trials. "This should allow us to choose a team very capable of qualifying the United States for next year's FIBA U19 World Championship."
Also making the list of 27 are Sidney Cooks, Amber Ramirez and Megan Walker, who recently teamed up to win the 2016 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Tournament on May 1, which qualified them to represent USA Basketball at the 2016 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship, which will be played June 1-5 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Squires, who prepped at Sand Creek High School, played on the runner-up team at the 2016 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Tournament.
Six players will arrive at the 2016 U18 trials with two previous USA Basketball trials experiences. Tori McCoy attended the 2014 U17 trials and was named to the 2013 USA Women's U16 National Team but could not participate due to injury. Players with experience at the 2013 U16 and 2014 U17 trials include: Nicole Ekhomu (Florida State), Ramirez (TCU), Kylee Shook (Louisville), Squires and Dominique Toussaint (Virginia).
Also invited to the trials are Nadia Fingall (Stanford), Ruthy Hebard (Oregon), Megan Walker, Evina Westbrook, Tyasha Harris (South Carolina), Jeannie Boehm (Harvard), Chennedy Carter, Dana Evans, Vivian Gray, Nia Hollie (Michigan State), Kiara Lewis (Ohio State), Chasity Patterson, Reili Richardson (Arizona State), Jenna Staiti (Maryland), Jasmine Walker (Florida State), LaDazhia Williams, Aaliyah Wilson (Arkansas) and Micaela Wilson.
