Cats to host seven meets in Bozeman, including the Big Sky Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-27
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- The Montana State track & field program released its 2026-27 indoor and outdoor track & field schedules on Friday, which features a loaded home schedule that includes seven meets in Bozeman, including the 2027 Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships.Â
Â
Five of Montana State's 10 indoor meets in 2026-27 will take place in the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center, while the Bobcats will compete in 13 meets across nine weekends during the outdoor season, including twice at home. Montana State will return to a slew of familiar meets from the 2025-26 season while traveling to new locations, including Spokane, Wash., and Tucson, Ariz., as the Bobcats seek another year of strong postseason results.
Â
"The highlight of the entire schedule certainly has to be hosting the indoor conference championships in the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center on Feb. 25-27," Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lyle Weese said. "However, leading into the indoor conference championships, the combination of home meets and traveling to Spokane, Seattle, and Albuquerque should allow us to put up some big marks, allow competition opportunities for development, and also allow high-level competition opportunities.Â
Â
"For the outdoor season, we will be excited to have our conference championships in the state of Montana in Missoula. There are quite a few familiar meets on the schedule, but we did add an additional home meet and a late-season trip to the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson. Similar to indoor, the schedule will allow for development and high-level competition opportunities."
Â
The Bobcats will open the indoor season in December with the Bobcat PReview for the second-straight year. Last season's iteration of the meet marked the first-ever meet at the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center, which hosted four Bobcat meets during the 2025-26 season.Â
Â
Following the winter break, Montana State will compete at four meets across three weekends in January, starting with a pair of meets in Washington. The Bobcats will send athletes to compete at the Spokane Sports Showcase in Spokane, Wash., on Jan. 15 and the UW Preview in Seattle, Wash., on Jan. 15-16 to open a busy stretch of five-straight competition weekends for the Bobcats.Â
Â
The Bobcats will then return home for three-straight meets in the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center to make up the middle portion of the indoor campaign. The Bobcat Performance will take place on Jan. 22, with the two-day Bobcat Challenge to follow on Jan. 29-30. Montana State will then open February with the Carignan Classic on Feb. 5, marking the team's second-to-last meet weekend of the regular season.
Â
The Bobcats will wrap up the indoor regular season with a pair of nationally competitive meets, splitting up between the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., and the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 12-13.
Â
Montana State will host its first Big Sky Indoor Championships since 2022 and the first at the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center from Feb. 25-27. Those who qualify will advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 12-13 to wrap up the indoor season.
Â
The beginning of the Bobcats' outdoor season will mirror that of the 2026 campaign, with Montana State traveling to Missoula, Mont., for the Cat-Griz Dual/Al Manuel Invitational on March 26-27 before splitting up between the Stanford Invite in Stanford, Calif., and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, Calif., on April 2-3.
Â
Montana State will send its multi-event athletes to the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, Calif., on April 8-9, while the remainder of the Bobcats will compete in the first of two Montana State-hosted meets of the outdoor campaign at the Bobcat Outdoor Open on April 10. The following week, the Bobcats will return to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa and the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut on April 15-17.
Â
Montana State adds a pair of new meets to the schedule in their second-to-last regular-season meet weekend of the year. A group of Bobcats will travel back to Missoula for the Montana Open on April 30-May 1, while the remainder of the team will head to Tucson, Ariz., for the Desert Heat Classic on May 1.
Â
The Bobcats will conclude the outdoor regular season in Bozeman, hosting the Tom Gage Classic on May 7. Montana State will honor its senior class at the Bobcat Track & Field Complex and provide one final opportunity for its athletes to compete ahead of the Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Â
The Big Sky Championships will take place in Missoula the following week from May 12-15, with the Bobcat women seeking to defend their conference title after winning the Big Sky championship for the first time since 2003. The NCAA West First Round will follow in College Station, Texas, on May 26-29, with the outdoor season to conclude in Eugene, Ore., with the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 9-12.
Â
Montana State is coming off a historic 2025-26 campaign that featured the Bobcat women's first Big Sky outdoor title since 2003 and a pair of runner-up finishes for the men and women at the Big Sky Indoor Championships. Seven Bobcats represented Montana State in four events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, highlighted by a pair of Second-Team All-America performances by Tilde Bjerager in the 400-meter hurdles and Sydney Brewster in the shot put. Indoors, Brewster joined Hailey Coey in earning Second-Team All-America honors in the shot put and long jump, respectively.
Â
Montana State hauled in national honors for strong results on and off the track last season. Caroline Hawkes was named Montana State's women's Big Sky Scholar Athlete, while Rob McManus and Giulia Gandolfi took home College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honors. Both awards honored the student-athletes' combined academic and athletic accomplishments throughout their storied seasons and careers and capped off a record-setting 2025-26 campaign for the Bobcats.
