Bobcat Men’s Basketball Uses Hot Start to Defeat Montana Western in Exhibition Contest

Montana State hits 7 of first 8 from beyond arc for early lead and never looks back in 14-point victory
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State got out to a strong start from the 3-point line and never looked back as the Bobcats powered past the Montana Western Bulldogs, 86-72, in a college men's basketball exhibition game Friday, Nov. 4, at Worthington Arena.
MSU's first five shots it hit were from behind the arc, helping propel the Bobcats to a 15-4 lead within the first 5 minutes of the contest. MSU eventually went on a 23-2 run over a span of 6:42 – behind a 7-for-8 spree from deep – in the opening portion of the first half and led by as many as 23. The MSU defense played its part in the early going, holding the Bulldogs to just 10 percent from the field in the first 10 minutes of play.
Montana Western cut the deficit to 13 for a 41-28 score at halftime and down to as many as 11 in the second half. That's when the Bobcats took control the rest of the way.
Senior Sarp Gobeloglu scored seven straight to start an 11-0 run for the Bobcats, setting up a 27-point cushion and putting the game out of reach.
All 13 Bobcats saw game action with 11 players notching points. Sophomore Tyler Hall nearly earned a double-double while leading MSU in points (17), rebounds (9) and assists (5). Junior Joe Mvuezolo (16), senior Quinton Everett (11) and sophomore Sam Neumann (11) all contributed with double digits for the Bobcats. Junior Zach Green scored all nine of his points before the break to lead MSU in the first 20 minutes.
As a team, the Bobcats knocked down 51.6 percent of their shots while holding the Bulldogs to 40 percent from the field. MSU also earned a strong advantage on the boards, outrebounding Montana Western 46-34.
The Bobcats completed their preseason schedule with the lone exhibition game at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Montana State makes its 2016-17 season opener on Nov. 11 at Washington State.
