Ferris Tabbed Big Sky Preseason MVP; Nordgaard Named Preseason All-Big Sky

The Montana State women’s basketball team was well represented on the 2016-17 Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
The Montana State women's basketball team was well represented on the 2016-17 Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Senior Peyton Ferris was tabbed Big Sky MVP, while senior Riley Nordgaard was one of five players named to the preseason all-conference squad.
Ferris, who was the 2015 and 2016 Big Sky Conference Top Reserve of the Year, averaged 15 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 58 percent from the field, last winter. The Twin Bridges product finished eighth in the nation in field-goal percentage as she led the Bobcats to a 21-10 overall mark and 14-4 Big Sky record and a regular-season Big Sky title.
"Peyton is one of the toughest and hardest-working players I've coached," said MSU 12th year head coach Tricia Binford. "She is a versatile player that can score numerous ways. She sets the tone for us on the floor with her relentless and selfless style. She's ready to take on more of a role this season."
Nordgaard, a 5-10 guard from Canby, Minnesota, averaged 10.9 points and a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game, last season. For her efforts, Nordgaard was named the 2016 Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year, after transferring to MSU from Augustana College in 2014. In addition, Nordgaard was first on the team with 76 steals and third in assists with 70.
"Riley is one of those lunch-pail athletes that has a tremendous blue-collar work ethic," Binford said. "She never takes a play off and our kids and our fans all feed off of her energy. As with Peyton, we'll look for her to play a more expanded role on the floor this season."
